Born Chosen

Soul Champions are the ‘chosen’ of chosen ones. The mark goes to someone who has just been born as the old Soul Champion has died. Being born means a different thing for different species. For Landborn, Moonlings and Humans, a child isn’t born until they form their own Light. That doesn't happen until separated from the umbilical cord. Merfolk it’s when the baby hatches from their egg, Buds count as being born once they sprouted out of the ground. Geodes aren’t born until their hearts are activated and Angels aren’t born until they’ve been programmed. The one thing all these events have in common is when the species counts as a living thing. In God Marked a living thing is something with its own Light, a Body to hold it, and a Mind to control it.

The Weight of your Soul 

Being born with a mark comes with a lot of responsibility - generations of it. Soul Champions are some of the easiest champions to hunt down, and even have a specific item created to find them: the twin rings, a necklace with two rings that click together when close to the Soul Champion.  You most likely have to deal with whatever killed you in your last life and the mistakes they made, and everything the world now expects you to accomplish. It’s hard to live a normal life when chosen.

Relationship with Soul God

Sogon is dead, their is no relationship to be have with him now, yet his champions still live on. You can’t give up the Soul Mark, no other mark can overrule it.

Making a Soul Champion 

More so than every other champion, the Soul Champion can be anything. There is no Trial, nor any requirements to be champion, only to be born. One Skill you would be good with is Divines, having all your life to train.

Soul Mark

While other champions have two sources of Light yours has already embraced Light meaning you have the embrace Light ability to start, the consequences of it as well. Your mark is placed on you at birth whatever that might be to your specieses on either your heart or where your fatal wound in your last life was. You also might be visited by a figure only you can see this figure would be yourself from the past life still able to hold on to some sort of connection to speak and give you advice in your life.  When you make a Skill roll you can roll using your Divine Modifier instead of the Skill required, accusing information from a past life to help you for a moment. You can only do this a number of times equal to half your power Modifier, regaining on a safe or unsafe rest.

Where does the term Soul come from?

The Soul is another term for Light. Before the understanding of the cycle we have now, many mortals had some understanding of it, saying your Soul will be reincarnated. The Soul God represented this idea, being the most obvious God to recreate himself through the cycle and really embodying the old concept of the Soul. Many Gods’ titles are given to them by the Mortals around them, rather than actual facts for what they are. 

No Honour in Death

When something dies, the Light inside them re-enters the cycle to be used to bring new things into the world. When you kill something powerful, some of its Light even enters you or your weapon, making each a bit stronger. The more Light something has, the stronger you can get for it. Killing a Titan or Champion can help make your weapon very strong. Killing a Soul Champion doesn't do that - it’s Light doesn't enter the cycle or whatever killed it; it just goes straight to making the next Soul champion. Usually the next Soul Champion is the closets thing being born to where the last one died.

Fallen God

Soul God, Sogon, is dead. He died at the end of the War of Darkness, but at that point had already signed the Celestions Contract. In his last act, he sent off the rest of his Light to make the first Soul Champion. The Light was small and barely noticeable but it combined with the Light of the first Soul Champion; with every Soul Champion after, the Light has increased more and more. While the Soul Champion has no relation to the God, they do relate to previous Soul Champions. Some Scholars say that all the memories of the previous Soul Champions form the new Soul God, and the Soul Champion themself is just an avatar. While the further you go back the harder it is to speak with the previous Soul Champion, the one who came before you usually can communicate with you quite well.
