Skills & Perks
Skills
Skills determine what you’re good at and how you build your character. When you first make your character, you are given 10 points in every skill every time you level up. You can move these points around but you get half of what you take from a skill. The skills are Acrobatics, Agility, Arcana, Athletics, Diplomacy, Endurance, Medicine, Mind, Perception, & Stealth.
Special skills work the same way: for every level, you receive 10 points. You can move these points around but only gain half the value of what you take. The Special skills are Divine, Magic, & Martial.
Skills range from 0-100. Zero is what an average person would have if they've never trained in a skill. Every 10 you have in a skill gives you a +1 to your small modifier.
Negatives
You can choose to go into negatives on your skills, but not for special skills, where you get an additional half skill points back for the negatives you take. For example, taking a -20 to a skill will give you 10 more points to place. You can’t go beyond a -50 on a skill.
Prestige
When you achieve 100 in a skill, you can push it further by spending double the amount of skill points to up that skill. The cap is 150 for a skill. When you get to +15 into a skill any abilities that use half that modifier round up.
When you build a character starting at Level 3, they will have 30 in everything that you are free to move around. Once they level up, they will just gain 10 in every skill, which then can be moved around as you wish.
The important thing to remember with skills is that whatever you want to take from one gets halved when giving it to another.
Perks
Perks are connected to skills, each has a requirement equal to what your large number must be in the skill to have that perk. Perks don’t go away even if you happen to lose that number, somehow… You have as many perks equal to the level of your character. You also gain a Key Perk this is a perk you choose when you first make your character that doesn’t have to meet the requirements needed to have the perk.
No Perk Please
When you level up you gain a perk and can choose No Perk in exchange for 25 more skill points.
Awakening
Every player character gets an Awakening. Once during the campaign when you feel an important character moment is happening, you can awaken a Perk or Power of your choosing. You can talk with the Light Bringer about what your Awakening might be or even when you are able to achieve your Awakening.
This is to give the players some control when they feel an important character moment has happened. A player calls out when their Awakening happens and is instantly able to use the new Perk or Power. Awakenings should only happen once a game.
