Entering a new state of Combat shift allows you to get stronger as the fight goes on, shift can only be activated when Combat has started, if you aren’t hit or don’t make a hit for a full round shift ends. You also go up a stage on shift when you land a critical hit on an opponent.  The benefits of shift are;

Stage 1: You get an extra +1  attack roll & deal 1 additional fire damage to your attacks. 

Stage 2: You get an extra +2 to your attack rolls. Additional D4 of Fire damage to your attacks. 

Stage 3: You get an extra +3 to your attack rolls. Additional D6 of fire damage on your attacks. 

Stage 4 You get an extra +4 to your attack rolls. Additional D8 of Fire Damage on your Attacks. 

Stage 5: You get an extra +5 to your attack rolls. Additional D12 of fire damage on your attacks & you count as landing a crit on 19 or 20.
