You gain a pool of d4s equal to your Diplomacy modifier, when someone does a d20 roll or a hack/lockpick roll you can take away from their end results by rolling as many d4s as you like then taking that away from their roll. Once you determine how many d4s you’re using you can’t add more after they’ve been rolled.
